Bodyphonic Gardens

2012, Portugal

Bodyphonic is one of the winning projects of ‘Performance Architecture’, a competition held within the scope of Guimarães 2012 European Capital of Culture. The installation populates the historic gardens of Guimarães with a set of public sound sculptures. Four structures are installed on four existing platforms, each of which encourage interaction from passers-by who can use a particular part of their bodies to activate sound devices. Spontaneous soundscapes are generated through improvisation.

This project investigates alternative relationships between bodies and the physical structures that shape public spaces.
