A new four bedroom detached house is to be built on the grounds of an extinct vineyard on the rural outskirts of Coimbra, Portugal. The plot is elongated and narrow, sitting approximately half a storey below road level. A fireplace takes centre stage in an open ground floor living area connecting front and back gardens. A set of concrete walls establishes spatial hierarchies longitudinally along the terrain. Above, the privacy of the bedrooms spills out onto shared balconies that provide views across the surrounding landscape.
